About Me
From Ketchikan, Alaska, Sarah Short completed her Bachelors of Music in Jazz Studies (with a concentration in Jazz Bass) at the University of North Texas in 2025. During her time at UNT she was a member of numerous ensembles, including the Jazz Strings Lab under the direction of Professor Scott Tixier and the rhythm section of the UNT Jazz Singers, directed by Professor Jennifer Barnes. She studied jazz bass under the instruction of Lynn Seaton.
Sarah has had the opportunity to interact and share the stage with artists such as Sinne Eeg, Bryan Carter, Alyssa Allgood, Kings Return, and 5x Grammy winning violinist Scott Tixier. She also performed at the 2025 Jazz Education Conference in Atlanta with the UNT Jazz Singers. Sarah was a counselor for two years at the UNT Jazz Combo Workshop, where she interacted and performed with many of the UNT Jazz faculty and other artists including Annie Booth, Amy Shook, Leigh Pilzer, and Addison Jordan. As a student, Sarah was the 2024-25 President of the UNT Jazz and Gender Equity Initiative. Through this position, she worked to build a strong, supportive student organization bringing awareness to various issues impacting marginalized genders among the jazz community.
Sarah performs throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area with various groups and as a solo artist. She is a member of the Rosewood Acoustic Project, a jazz string trio that has performed in multiple venues in DFW including Reveler’s Hall and Atlas Cocktail Lounge. Sarah also performed at the 2025 House of DIFFA Fashion Show with Scott Tixier, hosted by renowned vocalist Erykah Badu.
Back in Alaska, Sarah has performed as a solo artist, a bandleader, and band member in various local groups. She has performed with the Gateway Jazz Trio, multi-genre crossing band the Ratfish Wranglers, and plays in various venues in her hometown to further build the local music community. She has also performed at festivals across the state of Alaska, including the Sitka Jazz Festival and the Blueberry Arts Festival.
